Northwest Green Home Tour
Northwest Green Home Tour.
A free public tour of green new homes and remodels in the Seattle area.
In its fourth year, the Northwest Green Home tour, seeks to promote modern eco-conscious residential design by exposing the public to 35 home sites that embody the sustainable ethos. This free tour is an event hosted by partners Built Green and the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild, both local champions of green architecture. The Green Home Tour is on April 26th from 11am to 5pm.
The 2014 tour features 35 homes scattered all over the city and as far away as the Issaquah Highlands to the east, and North Creek to the North. Homes range from energy retrofits, remodels, and ground up new construction. The homes on the tour embody different principles of sustainable design ranging from passive solar design, green roofs, power generation, water conservation, materials conservation and more. For more information on the green features of the homes on the tour see this link: http://www.nwgreenhometour.org/green-feature-icons.
In addition to home tours there will be “sustainability stops” oriented at educating the public about various green building practices. Rather than focusing on specific homes, these stops will offer information about how commercial spaces have used suitability in their projects. Everything will be covered from energy rating systems and products, to water conservation in a brewery. One stop we are particularly excited about is stop # 1 at the Taproot Theater by Miller Hull and Method Prefab, a division of Method Homes. This projected LEED Gold building addition was built offsite in a warehouse in multiple prefabricated modules and trucked to the site and assembled in a fraction of the time compared to stick building on site. Building offsite allows less waste, better quality control, and faster construction. For all of these reasons and more we have partnered with Method Homes to develop a line of customizable prefabricated homes we call the Option Series. In addition to the Option Series offered through Method Homes, we’ve provided architectural services for several of their custom homes clients.
There are so many great stops and amazing homes on the tour this year the only problem will be which ones to visit in the 6 hours! We hope you’re inspired by these sustainable homes and want to have a conversation with us about designing a green home for you.
