Distillery Lofts Tenant Improvement

Seattle, WA

Grouparchitect refreshed an existing office space in the Distillery Lofts Building in the Westlake neighborhood in order to become the next home for our design firm. Maximizing daylighting was key in order to take advantage of existing views to the east of Lake Union. Existing concrete and wood structure was sandblasted to remove years of wear and layers of paint to expose the true character of the materials. Elsewhere, project samples and site mockup materials were creatively repurposed to reduce landfill and extend life to otherwise landfill-destined elements. New energy efficient lighting was added throughout the office to bring the space up to current codes. Partitions are clear-finished OSB, while privacy doors are full-lite fir doors on sliding track systems. The kitchen and appliances were jobsite-salvaged from one of our multifamily model units which was otherwise slated for demolition and the landfill.

The Distillery Lofts Building has a unique history, dating back the early days after the repeal of prohibition. You can learn more about it at http://www.distillerylofts.net/#!about/c1enr.
