Seattle Design Festival 2011

The Seattle Design Festival aims to widen and deepen the public conversation about design in Seattle. Encompassing a wide range of design disciplines, the festival explores design as an active force that solves problems, contributes to innovation, and improves our lives.

Founded and produced by AIA Seattle, the first festival is the product of a collaboration among ten non-profit partners. By combining forces to present ten days of concentrated programming about architecture and design, the partners have created a festival that calls attention to the power and value of design in both the private and public realms.

The festival runs from September 16 – 25, 2011.

AIA Seattle
Founded in 1894, AIA Seattle, the seventh largest chapter of the American Institute of Architects, is a not-for-profit professional association of architects, allied professionals and laypeople. ARCADE
For over 30 years, ARCADE magazine has been providing ongoing design discussion, exploration and inspiration. ARCADE’s design-related content covers topics from architecture to art, food to fashion. ARCADE magazine is for the design-minded. IDSA Northwest
Formed in 1965, the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) is the voice of the industrial design profession, advancing the quality and positive impact of design. IDSA’s mission is threefold: Lead the profession by expanding its horizons, connectivity and influence, and its service to members; inspire design quality and responsibility through professional development and education; and elevate the business of design and improve the industry’s value. IIDA Northern Pacific
The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) advances the profession of interior design through the progressive cultivation of leadership and by constantly advocating for exceptional design. IIDA is a professional networking and educational association representing more than 11,000 interior designers, industry partners and students of interior design from nine regions around the globe. There are more than 30 IIDA Chapters world-wide dedicated to enhancing the public’s quality of life through excellence in interior design. Seattle Architecture Foundation
Through entertaining and informative guided walking tours, youth programs, well-timed exhibits, and special events, the Seattle Architecture Foundation (SAF) increases the awareness and appreciation of design in the community. SIFF Cinema and SIFF Film Center
Now in its 37th year, SIFF has evolved into a world renowned film institution, reaching over 200,000 individuals each year through the Seattle International Film Festival, SIFF Cinema and Futurewave Education. Programs are presented at the new SIFF Film Center headquarters on the campus of Seattle Center and at other venues throughout the Pacific Northwest. Space.city
Space.city is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to spirited public discussion of art, architecture, urbanism and cultural issues in the spatial arts in Seattle by hosting architectural lectures and other cultural events in Seattle. WASLA
The Washington Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (WASLA) is the professional society that represents the landscape architecture profession in Washington State. WASLA’s mission as a landscape architecture organization is to lead, to educate and to participate in the careful stewardship, wise planning and artful design of our cultural and natural environments. ASLA works to increase the public’s awareness of and appreciation for the profession of landscape architecture and its contributions to quality of life.
