Alaskan Copper Works – Early August Construction Update
Adding to our industrial work portfolio, our ongoing project with local manufacturer Alaskan Copper Works exhibits a construction type not often undertaken in this office. We at Grouparchitect welcome the opportunity to work on various project and construction types, and administering the construction of this addition onto an existing factory in SODO has been exciting.
Built to house new state of the art fabrication and cutting equipment, this addition will allow Alaskan Copper Works to expand production to meet the demand of rising requests throughout the region.
The height of the space will accommodate a large crane on rails which will allow larger metal pieces to be fabricated, moved around to different staging areas, and ultimately shipped out to customers. While studying the requirements for this project we were excited by the change in scale and the opportunity to research the logistics and details of such large and industrial scaled metal fabrications.
The roof sub structure, or purlins, are being installed on top of both the super structure as well as the lower eaves along the parking and loading side. Following soon after will be the wall girts and metal panel walls and roof. Once the building is sealed the work can shift towards insulation, electrical work, and other interior elements.
