WHY GROUPARCHITECT
• Real project leadership. Project managers here run their projects through all phases, bringing principals in on top-level decisions.
• A growing practice area. Washington’s middle-housing reforms (HB 1110) have opened a steady pipeline of townhome, rowhome, cottage and ADU work — and we’re already delivering it.
• A path to ownership. We’re actively building the firm’s next generation of leadership (see below).
• Flexibility. Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office / flexible hours / part-time arrangements considered for long-tenured staff.
• A great place to work. Open, light-filled studio in the Distillery Lofts on Lake Union.
GROWING INTO LEADERSHIP
We want people who see themselves running projects, developing clients and eventually owning part of the firm. Every staff member gets a written growth plan, and advancement from Associate to Senior Associate to Principal is based on clear, published criteria: project leadership, client development and mentoring others.
• Licensure support: ARE exam fees reimbursed, paid study time, and a bonus when you’re licensed.
• Profit sharing: Share of an annual pool tied to firm performance.
• Ownership path: Equity or buy-in program available for aligned contributors.
Firm Values
Our firm values define who we are as designers and embodying these values demonstrates them to our peers as well as to our clients. Who we are can be summarized in a handful of statements:
- GENEROUS – We contribute to our peers and clients beyond our own tasks, share knowledge freely and share credit even more freely.
- DESIGN FOR EVERYONE – Everyone deserves good design, regardless of fees or budget. No job is too small, no client or project unworthy of our attention.
- BE GREEN – We consider sustainability on all levels and incorporate green strategies and practices into everything we do.
- COLLABORATE – We are part of a team, both internally and externally. We acknowledge that we are only one voice among many and respect all perspectives and levels of experience.
- OWNERSHIP – We are dedicated participants in the creation of our work and in the development of the firm. We love what we do and take pride in what we design and produce.
- CONSCIENTIOUS – Our focus is on the big picture, not just in doing a specific task at hand. We identify and resolve problems proactively and ensure that all other team members are equally successful.
- CRAFT – Our focus is on perfecting the craft of architecture, a lifelong challenge and learning opportunity. We exhibit that experience through the quality of work that we produce and a sincere desire to grow from our mistakes.
- FLEXIBLE – Our designers are open to change, open to challenge, and open to being open.
- EARN TRUST – We earn the respect of our clients and peers project by project, and we recognize and reward the people who do.
Careers at Grouparchitect
Project Architect / Senior Architectural Designer — Residential + Multifamily
Full-time | Seattle, South Lake Union | In-office / Hybrid: 3+ days in office | Target start: November 2026
Grouparchitect is looking for an experienced residential architect or designer who wants more than a narrowly defined production role. For more than 20 years we’ve designed custom homes, townhomes, cottage communities, ADUs, and multifamily and mixed-use buildings across the Puget Sound region. In 2026 we were recognized with a Sunset Western Home & Design Award and Best of Houzz. Washington’s middle-housing reforms have given us a steady pipeline of townhome, rowhome and cottage work.
You’ll work directly with principals, clients, consultants and contractors, with meaningful responsibility from design through construction. We’re looking for someone who takes ownership of outcomes, is exceptionally capable in Revit, and wants responsibility to grow faster than their job title. For the right person, this role can develop into project leadership, client leadership, firm leadership and, over time, participation in ownership. We believe careers and opportunities are earned through contribution. People who create exceptional value for our clients, projects and firm should share in that success.
What you’ll do
- Lead single-family, townhome, middle housing, and multifamily projects from schematic design through construction administration
- Produce and manage permit and construction document sets in Revit
- Guide projects through Seattle and Eastside jurisdiction permitting, including design review
- Coordinate consultants and serve as a day-to-day contact for clients and contractors
- Mentor junior staff and help shape firm standards and templates
What you bring
- 5 years minimum experience; 7–10+ years preferred
- Significant single-family and/or multifamily experience
- Expert Revit skills; working proficiency in AutoCAD
- Working knowledge of current IBC, IRC and ANSI A117.1
- Preferred: SketchUp, InDesign, Photoshop, and rendering or illustration experience
- Architectural license preferred. Licensed candidates will be hired as Project Architect; unlicensed candidates as Senior Architectural Designer.
Compensation
Base salary: $85,000–$130,000, depending on experience and licensure. We add a performance bonus tied to project profitability, billable hours above target, and new client development, with meaningful upside for people who take on more responsibility. Workload follows project deadlines, and people who invest more share directly in the results.
Benefits
- 100% employer-paid medical, vision and dental
- 401(k) with annual employer safe harbor contributions
- PTO and flexible holidays
- Annual bonus based on tenure, in addition to the performance bonus
- AIA membership dues support
- ARE exam reimbursement and licensure bonus
