The Mercantile is starting to take form. The footings were completed and the columns are being erected at the lower levels. A building rich in history, this project has been broken up into phases. We’ve completed the exterior work and have been updating the interior. The Mercantile will be a seven story multifamily apartment building. The demolition phase has begun in the month of October. The original building, the Cooperative Mercantile Company, is an unreinforced masonry structure. The Capitol Hill Apartments construction team has completed the exterior framing. Pedestrians are now able to visualize the upcoming structure. The building’s penthouse level butterfly roof adds a recognizable angular skyline to the neighborhood.The structure is located atop a hill which allows for sweeping views out towards Lake Washington, the Cascade Mountains, and the local territory.
